This session is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to understand the world of phonics, explore the science behind phonics and why it's crucial for reading success. The facilitator will examine the phases of reading development and how instruction can be tailored to meet the specific needs of students at each phase. Participants will also have the opportunity to spend time identifying the difference between "high-frequency words" and "sight words” and learning explicit strategies and practices for teaching irregularly spelled words effectively.
