Unlock the power of phonics and word study instruction with our comprehensive workshop series. This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and strategies you need to support all students. Our expert instructors will guide you through the world of phonics, from foundational concepts to advanced techniques, all grounded in the latest research by experts like Moats and Tolman. Participants will have an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of phonics, including the critical relationship between phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (written symbols), and explore the science behind phonics and why it's crucial for reading success. The facilitator will delve into the phases of reading development, from emergent readers to fluent readers, and learn how to tailor your instruction to meet the specific needs of each phase. Participants will also spend time reflecting on the difference between "high-frequency words" and "sight words” and learning explicit strategies and practices for teaching irregularly spelled words effectively.
